Lederhosen & Dirndl Size Guide

Five minutes with a soft tape measure is all it takes. Measure yourself with our step-by-step guide, then compare with the size guide on each product page.

Before you start

  • Use a soft tape

A flexible tailor’s tape, not a metal one. Keep it level and snug, but not tight.

  • Ask for help

Measurements are more accurate when someone else holds the tape.

  • Wear light clothing

Measure over underwear or thin clothing, standing relaxed.

Step by step

How to measure

  1. Chest / bust: around the fullest part of your chest, under the arms, tape level across the back.
  2. Waist: around your natural waist, the narrowest part of your torso. For lederhosen, measure where you will wear the waistband.
  3. Hips: around the fullest part of your hips and seat, feet together.
  4. Thigh: around the fullest part of one thigh, just below the crotch.
  5. Inseam: from the crotch to where you want the leg to end (short, knee or ankle length).
  6. Head: around your head just above the ears and eyebrows, for hats.

For dirndls also measure your underbust (directly under the bust). For shoes, stand on paper, mark heel and longest toe and measure the distance.

Fit advice by style

  • Dark brown suede lederhosen with embroidered suspenders on a wooden hanger

    Lederhosen

Genuine leather should feel snug at first: it relaxes and molds to your body with wear. Between sizes? Choose the larger size: leather eases a little with wear but never shrinks back, and suspenders adjust for length.

  • Green dirndl with a cream blouse and dusty rose apron on a dress form

    Dirndl

The bodice should close without gaps or pulling and sit close to the body. Choose by bust and waist; the skirt is usually generous. The blouse is cropped and sits under the bodice.

  • Beer steins, pretzels and a green alpine hat on a beer garden table

    Shirts, hats & shoes

Shirts are chosen by chest (and collar where listed) and are usually worn tucked in. Hats by head circumference, shoes by foot length; if you are between sizes, size up.

Using the product size charts

Sizes vary between styles and makers, so every product page lists the sizes that style comes in, and its size guide notes always apply. Compare your measurements with it rather than relying on the size you wear in other brands.

  • Write down your measurements in inches (or centimeters) before you shop.
  • If two sizes fit different measurements, choose by waist for lederhosen and by bust and waist for dirndls.
  • Still unsure? Email us your measurements and the product link and we will recommend a size.

Between sizes or a special fit?

We can make selected lederhosen and dirndls to your measurements, with a quote before you pay. And if a standard size does not fit, you have 30 days to exchange it.

Sizing FAQs

Should lederhosen be tight?

Snug, not tight. New genuine leather relaxes and molds to your body with wear, so a close fit at first gives the best long-term result.

What if my measurements are between two sizes?

For lederhosen choose by waist; for dirndls by bust and waist. Email us your measurements and the product link if you would like a recommendation.

Can I exchange if the size is wrong?

Yes. Unworn items with tags can be exchanged within 30 days of delivery, and the replacement size ships without a second shipping charge.
